This leads us to his solo debut Let’s Get it: Thug Motivation 101, which sounds like a class WWE wrestler John Cena would teach if they allowed Basic Thugonomics at Harvard. Last night, the Snowman started his set with fan favorites off TM101 like “Standing Ovation” and “Get Your Mind Right.” (The show had been billed as Jeezy performing the album in its entirety.)īut just a few minutes later, Young Jeezy turned the mic over as surprise guest Jay-Z swooped in and gave an extra dose of lyrical adrenaline of the remix to “Go Crazy”: “More than a hustla I’m the definition of it,” Jay rapped. This proves the age old axiom so stupid he’s smart quite true, or perhaps shows that Young Jeezy knows what he’s doing far better than any of us do. TM101 was a musical blizzard of genuine, slickly spewed narratives, simplistic but lovable ad-libs and hard-hitting beats, and became the definitive soundtrack for the summer of 2005. Because this album was so important to his career, it’s only right he celebrate in a big way. Last night at New York City’s Highline Ballroom, Young Jeezy – the rapper known as much for his platinum-selling albums Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 and The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 as for his trademark Snowman T-shirts – got some help from the biggest names in hip-hop as he celebrated the six-year anniversary of the release of TM101. It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 10 years since Young Jeezy dropped Thug Motivation 101.
